A power of attorney authorises a person you trust (the attorney) to act on your behalf within the limits you record below. It is a mandate under South African common law. It is not a substitute for legal advice where the National Credit Act, property transfers, or mental capacity are in issue:

• ✍️   The principal should sign in ink on the execution page; initial every page if required by the institution receiving the document.
• 📋   Describe powers clearly (banking, vehicles, litigation, etc.) so third parties know the scope of authority.
• ⚠️   A general power of attorney usually lapses if the principal loses mental capacity; seek legal advice if enduring authority may be needed.

Keep the original in a safe place. Provide certified copies to your attorney-in-fact and update or revoke the instrument in writing if circumstances change.

Review the draft carefully before signing. Institutions may apply their own witnessing or authentication requirements.
